Advanced Technology Solutions for Seniors Receive Grant Funding

Lifestyle Medicine has introduced a new app called Hero of Health Jersey, developed by Lauren Perchard-Rees and Dr Jo Darwood. This initiative is part of three innovative projects in Jersey that have been awarded grants to improve the lives of older individuals through advanced technology.

The CareTech Challenge, which was launched with up to £2 million from the government for innovators proposing long-term high-quality care solutions, has selected these three projects. The scheme, managed by Digital Jersey, aims to provide up to £20 million over three years for tech-driven initiatives addressing the island’s major challenges.

Deputy Kirsten Morel, Minister of Sustainable Development, highlighted that these grants would contribute significantly to their long-term healthcare strategy and help tackle the anticipated 30% increase in older people by 2035 on Jersey.

The winning projects include:

Orchid Connect Hybrid Care Service: This service utilizes advanced tools, such as environmental sensors, enabling elderly individuals to maintain independence longer. It empowers families to respond promptly to emerging issues before they escalate.

Lifestyle Medicine’s Hero of Health Jersey App: Available for download through a grant from the challenge, this app connects users with local services, online resources, and in-person coaching. With additional funding secured by Lifestyle Medicine, the app will be rolled out across jersey starting at GP surgeries, Jersey General Hospital, and voluntary organizations.

Good Boost Project: Leveraging artificial intelligence technology to design personalized rehabilitation programs tailored for older adults’ needs. The project plans to establish a network of rehabilitation hubs within community spaces island-wide.

Digital Jersey’s CEO Tony Moretta expressed excitement about these initiatives, emphasizing their potential to bring together cutting-edge minds and tech solutions that enhance the well-being of residents across the Island.
