Aston Martin Thrives in New Era According to Alonso
Aston Martin has unveiled significant changes in their aerodynamic design for the upcoming 2025 car model, claiming it to be “close to 100% new,” according to a statement published just seven hours ago. The team’s new principal and CEO, Andy Cowell, expressed optimism about these developments.
Fernando Alonso, a veteran Spanish two-time world champion driver for Aston Martin, commented on the improved prospects for the upcoming season. “Aston Martin begins this new year in much better shape than they ended last,” said Alonso. He highlighted that extensive work was done with a state-of-the-art simulator and wind tunnel during the winter to enhance their understanding of previous design shortcomings.
The team’s struggles over the past two seasons, ending fifth both times despite significant investments in development, have driven this restructuring effort. The addition of Adrian Newey as managing technical partner is seen as a major boost for Aston Martin, aiming to refine their approach and improve track performance.
Andy Cowell emphasized that while last year’s car design was understood well enough, the primary goal now is to create a more stable and predictable vehicle through cornering. He highlighted the importance of this season in validating whether these changes are effective before transitioning to new regulations for 2026, including updated engines and aerodynamics.
The team will begin testing their new car in Bahrain on Monday, with F1’s official pre-season tests starting on Wednesday. The Australian Grand Prix begins on March 14th, marking the start of a crucial year as Aston Martin transitions from using Mercedes to Honda engines for the next season.
