British Journalist Missing: Search Efforts Ongoing for Charlotte Peet in Brazil
A British journalist has vanished in Brazil, causing concern among an association for foreign correspondents that is urging law enforcement to increase search efforts. Charlotte Peet, 32, reportedly last contacted a friend on February 8th while stating her plans to travel from S?o Paulo to Rio de Janeiro. Since then, she hasn’t been heard from.
A few days later, her family in the UK informed the same friend that they had lost contact with Charlotte. They have provided authorities with information about her flight and a copy of her passport to assist in finding her. The Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in Brazil (ACIE) issued a statement expressing worry over Ms Peet’s disappearance and offering solidarity to her family and friends.
The case was first reported to police in Rio de Janeiro but then transferred to S?o Paulo, where she last appeared. According to the ACIEs statement, Brazil’s Department of Homicides and Personal Protection (DHPP) is involved in assisting with the search.
Ms Peet had worked as a freelance journalist for outlets such as Al Jazeera and The Times in Rio de Janeiro and London. “Her disappearance has raised alarm among colleagues and journalists within the region, prompting ACIE to call for intensified efforts to locate her,” said a statement on behalf of its president Edmar Figueiredo and board.
A spokesperson from the UK Foreign Office stated that they are supporting Charlotte Peet’s family in their search for her missing relative. They have also engaged with local authorities in Brazil regarding the matter.
