A French man has reached out to two thieves who used his stolen credit card to purchase a scratch lottery ticket that turned out to be a 500,000 (413,664) winner. The man identified himself as Jean-David E and appealed on RTL radio for the criminals to come forward with the winning ticket.

According to Jean-David, since his credit card was stolen from his car in central Toulouse last February and he had called his bank to block it after discovering that 52.50 (43.47) was spent on contactless payments at a nearby corner shop, the money would have otherwise been seized by authorities.

He added: “Without me, they would not have won; without them, I would not have bought this ticket,” and proposed to split the prize 50/50 with his unlikely partners-in-crime. Jean-David’s lawyer Pierre Debuisson also expressed an amnesty on behalf of his client.

However, police are likely to seize the winnings if they don’t hear from the thieves before their deadline of 30 days since the date of purchase runs out soon. The credit card was stolen when he left it in his car’s central Toulouse parking lot.
