Formula 1 is exploring changes to liven up the Monaco Grand Prix, which has been criticized as becoming too slow and predictable due to its challenging street circuit. To address this issue, race organizers have decided that drivers must make at least two pit stops during the event.

The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body of Formula 1, announced on Tuesday that they would be increasing the number of mandatory pit stops in an effort to enhance overtaking opportunities. According to a statement from FIA, this plan will be further discussed at their sporting advisory committee.

Insiders familiar with FIA’s plans have revealed that drivers would likely need to complete two pit stops and utilize all three available tyre compounds during the Monaco race. In cases of wet weather, while mandatory pit stops would still apply, teams would have greater flexibility in choosing which tyres to use.

Other changes approved by the Formula 1 Commission C comprising FIA, F1, and the ten participating teams C include stricter tests on wing flexibility for this season. These regulations will be implemented at the start of the season with rear wings being introduced during next month’s Australian Grand Prix, followed by front wings in June at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Additionally, a driver cooling system designed to handle dangerously hot race conditions has been finalized and will be used accordingly.
