At an extraordinary media conference in Manchester, Chris Eubank Jr. slapped Conor Benn across the face using an egg during their head-to-head confrontation. The British rivals – who will fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26th – displayed petulant behavior and exchanged foul-mouthed insults throughout the event.

Tension filled the auditorium of Manchester Central when it was time for their obligatory face-off. After exchanging words closely, Eubank pulled an egg from his pocket and hit Benn across the cheek with his left hand. An already volatile Benn, accompanied by his father Nigel, lost control and both fighters were restrained by security guards.

A scheduled fight between the pair in October 2022 was canceled after Benn failed a voluntary drugs test. This led to a two-year battle with anti-doping authorities before his suspension was lifted in November. Benn has consistently denied intentionally doping, and both fighters are currently being tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada) for their upcoming contest.

In February 2023, an independent report from the World Boxing Council stated that Benn’s failed drug tests were not intentional and could have been caused by a “highly elevated consumption” of eggs. Eubank responded to this by posting on social media with footage of the incident, saying: “Apparently egg contamination was the reason for his two failed drug tests. So I contaminated him with an egg.”

During their heated exchanges, Eubank demanded Benn be seated closer and asked who he thought he was talking to. A twitchy Benn responded while dressed in a black silk pyjama-like outfit. The fighters belittled each other’s records; Eubank criticized the rehydration clause that limits his weight on fight night by 10 pounds, while Benn threatened to render him unconscious.

“I’m excited to end this man’s career,” said 28-year-old Benn, who has a perfect record of 23 wins with 14 stoppages. With over 34 wins in his career spanning more than 13 years, Eubank is the elder statesman at age 35 and has faced former world champions Billy Joe Saunders, George Groves, and Liam Smith.

“I’m going to beat him because I’m a better fighter in every department,” he declared. The match reignites the family rivalry that began when their hall-of-fame fathers fought for a second time almost 32 years ago. However, Eubank Sr., who did not attend this conference, is reportedly reluctant to be involved in promoting the fight.

“The bottom line is that his dad does not even like him,” Benn said regarding Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.’s relationship.

While Nigel Benn and Eubank’s team remained quiet during their stand-off, Eubank specifically targeted Conor Bennett’s promoter, Eddie Hearn. “This is not the Eddie Hearn show,” he insisted, repeatedly interrupting whenever Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn spoke.

The Manchester Central Auditorium – which typically hosts corporate events – may need additional security as tensions escalate before their rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26th.
