Grassroots Groups Gain the Go-Ahead for Fringe-Style Theatre Productions

Theatre Royal Bath is set to expand its offerings with the approval of a new “fringe-style” community studio theatre, known as Venue 4. Located in St John’s Place, this proposed venue will have a capacity for 40 people and aims to provide grassroots groups with a platform to stage their shows.

Theatre leaders at Theatre Royal Bath are now preparing to launch a fundraising campaign aimed at raising the necessary funds to turn this project into reality. Danny Moar, the theatre’s director, emphasized that the initiative is geared towards opening up new opportunities for aspiring performers in Bath. “This project represents an exciting chance for our community to engage with and experience live theatre,” he said.

The proposed venue is expected to offer both rehearsal spaces and a stage for performances. This will enable local theatre groups to create and showcase their work, contributing to the cultural landscape of the city. Theatre Royal Bath’s head of community engagement, Katherine Lazare, highlighted the need for well-resourced and accessible spaces in order to provide participants with greater access to the theatre industry.

“Theatre has a profound impact on people’s lives,” Lazare explained. “With this new venue, we aim to create opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds to explore their creativity and embark on a journey of professional theatre-making.”

As plans move forward, Theatre Royal Bath encourages anyone who may be interested in using the venue or contributing to its development to reach out. This inclusive approach reflects the organization’s commitment to fostering a vibrant community around arts and performance.
