Julian Holloway: The Legacy of a Beloved ‘Carry On’ Icon Rests in Peace at Age 80
Julian Holloway, known for his roles in classic British comedy films such as The Importance of Being Earnest and the “Carry On” series, has passed away following a brief illness.
Holloway was born in Watlington, Oxfordshire. He played Algernon Moncrieff alongside Maggie Smith in the film adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s play. Later in his career, Holloway starred as Paterson in Doctor Who during the survival adventure.
He gained prominence with roles across various comedic films including “Carry On” series titles like Carry On Doctor and Carry On Camping. Apart from these memorable ventures, Julian also had significant roles on television shows such as Uncle Silas, Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads?, Doctor Who, Porridge (a prison comedy), and A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey.
Among his notable film appearances was in “The Rum Diary,” alongside Johnny Depp. Holloway’s diverse career included voiceover work for numerous animated productions including James Bond Jr., Wheres Waldo, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Captain Zed And The Zee Zone. In the late stages of his career, he lived in California.
In addition to his acting achievements, Julian was married to Tessa Dahl C daughter of renowned author Roald Dahl C with whom he had a daughter named Sophie Dahl. She is also known as a supermodel and an author herself. Following news of Holloway’s death on Sunday at Royal Bournemouth Hospital in Dorset, Damn Good Voices, his voiceover agency expressed their condolences by stating that Julian would be deeply missed.
