Key Trends and Predictions for the Upcoming MLS Season

Inter Miami is set to begin their sixth season in Major League Soccer (MLS), marking a significant milestone as the league celebrates its 30th anniversary. This years MLS will feature an impressive roster of new teams and British talent, with none more notable than Lionel Messi making his second full season at Inter Miami.

A former Barcelona teammate is now managing several of those legendary players. Javier Mascherano has taken over as manager at Inter Miami, replacing Gerardo Martino who was Barca’s boss in 2013-14. Messi and his team-mates from the past must perform well if they want to secure their first MLS title amidst a crowded schedule that includes competitions like the Concacaf Champions Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Cavan Sullivan, a 15-year-old forward for Philadelphia Union, has already made three appearances in MLS. With his exceptional talent, he is reportedly on track to join Manchester City soon. His German dual nationality could also allow him to play for European clubs by the mid-point of the next season.

The arrival of San Diego FC marks a significant addition to MLS with 30 teams now competing in the league. Founded by British-Egyptian businessman Mohamed Mansour, the club has an interesting ownership group including former Spain midfielder Juan Mata and music artist Tems.

In Charlotte FC’s second season under Dean Smith, they welcome Wilfried Zaha on loan from Galatasaray. This addition is part of a squad that includes ex-Burnley midfielder Ashley Westwood and former Wigan full-back Nathan Byrne.
Atlanta Uniteds new look roster includes British influences in both management and players. Former Celtic manager Ronny Deila has taken charge, alongside assistant boss Kenny Miller who was once Scotland’s top striker. The club has also signed Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron for 9 million and Middlesbrough forward Emmanuel Latte Lath for an MLS record fee of 22.5 million.
