Rory McIlroys Boston Common Golf Club suffered a third defeat in the inaugural season of Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) as they were edged out by Shane Lowrys The Bay team on Monday. The match concluded with Wyndham Clark securing victory for The Bay through an eagle putt on the final hole, resulting in a 5-4 win.
McIlroy was part of his Boston Common roster alongside United States Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley and former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama. However, this loss marks their third consecutive defeat since the inception of TGL last season.
The day also saw The Bay secure their second win, defeating Atlanta Drive GC 6-5 in a different match earlier on Monday. Ludvig Aberg joined The Bays ranks just hours before his PGA Tour victory at the Genesis Invitational in California. Despite this momentum, Boston Common managed to take control of their previous encounter by winning three out of the first four holes.
However, they faced resistance from Atlanta Drive GC who mounted a comeback but were narrowly beaten. Justin Thomas eagle putt on the final hole was just short, setting up an overtime match. In the nearest-the-pin challenge that followed, Patrick Cantlays ball edged closer than Sahith Theegala’s to claim victory for Boston Common.
On Wednesday (00:00 GMT), Tiger Woods is scheduled to return to competition with his Jupiter Links Golf Club taking on New York Golf Club. This match follows Woods’ participation in the TGL and comes just after his mothers passing earlier this month.
