Oxford’s Rise with the Arrival of River Plate Legend Diaz

The experiment with bringing in South American footballers and managers at Oxford United seems to have fizzled out due to a variety of factors.

Initially, it was an ambitious move aimed at injecting new talent into the club’s squad. The appointment of Ramon Diaz as manager and his sons as coaches brought fresh perspectives from their home countries and offered hope for improved results on the pitch.

However, things quickly took a turn for the worse off-field. Managerial changes within Oxford United led to disputes between management figures such as Firoz Kassam, who was in charge of selling tickets at away games and reportedly had authority over all staff members including Diaz’s sons.

The arrival of Brian Talbot also meant that most South American players left the club, even those with signed contracts. Furthermore, fans were prevented from meeting Diaz family members after they attempted to attend their final game as managers despite having bought tickets beforehand.

The sudden end to this experiment was unexpected and disappointing for many involved in bringing it about. However, some viewed it positively knowing that these individuals had a chance at professional football while working hard to change the face of English clubs through fresh ideas from abroad.

Despite its flaws, this attempt still stands out as one unique approach taken by an English club towards improving itself.
