Max Verstappen expressed confidence that Red Bull has made the necessary changes to their car for another successful season. The Dutch racer secured his fourth championship title last year but faced competition from McLaren in the second half of the campaign.
“Back then, our development path seemed promising, but unfortunately, it didn’t translate into success on track,” Verstappen admitted. “We had to make some adjustments. Now we hope this is the right direction.”
The new RB21 car underwent its first test run in Bahrain last Tuesday before an official pre-season session begins the following day.
Verstappen described his experience with the vehicle, saying: “I managed a few laps today mainly for getting comfortable and seeing what fits. We’ll learn more as we progress over the next few days.”
The team hopes that this car can overcome its limitations from last year and improve overall pace.
“If Verstappen wins again this season, he will be only the second driver in F1 history to secure five consecutive titles after Michael Schumacher,” reported one of our sources. “At 27 years old, Max says his motivation remains high. Despite some challenges last year, they still managed to win the championship.”
It is also noteworthy that this season marks the first time since 2005 that Red Bull will be without their design leader Adrian Newey, who has transitioned to Aston Martin.
“Adrian’s departure doesn’t phase me too much,” Verstappen stated. “He’s no longer with us and it’s important for all of us to work together moving forward.”
With the addition of Liam Lawson as his new team-mate, Verstappen remains focused on achieving their constructors’ championship goals.
“Lawson is fully aware that supporting Max is our main task,” explained the New Zealander driver. “Our primary goal for this season is to win the constructors’ championship.”
