Solar Panels at Leisure Centers Slash Energy Expenses
Stafford Borough Council has installed more than 650 solar panels across its Stafford and Stone leisure centres, marking a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and lowering energy costs.
Freedom Leisure (FL), which oversees both facilities on behalf of the council, partnered with the authority to secure government funding for this green initiative. The installation of these renewable energy sources will aid in diminishing reliance on conventional electricity supplies while enhancing sustainability efforts.
Councillor Gillian Pardesi highlighted that this collaboration is propelling the council’s goal towards achieving net zero carbon emissions. Angela Brown, FLs head of sustainability and environment, emphasized that the project underscores their joint commitment to environmental stewardship and a collective approach to cutting down on greenhouse gases.
Ms. Brown pointed out that this initiative is especially crucial for aquatic venues like swimming pools where high energy demands are typically required to maintain optimal temperatures and ventilation systems within pool environments.
The borough council views this project as part of an ongoing effort to make its public facilities more energy-efficient, ensuring they remain sustainable over the long term. The move aligns with broader sustainability strategies aimed at reducing environmental impact while enhancing operational efficiency.
