Louis Rees-Zammit has re-signed with his former team, the Jacksonville Jaguars after spending a couple of weeks as a free agent. The 24-year-old remains fully committed to his dream of becoming an NFL player and spent last year on the Jaguars’ practice squad.
Rees-Zammit did not see any regular-season action in 2024, with appearances limited to pre-season games for his previous team, the Kansas City Chiefs. His return to the Jaguars raises questions about what this means for his future in the league.

In order to play in the NFL, Rees-Zammit needs a team. Although signing with the Jaguars is positive, it doesn’t guarantee game time given that NFL franchises can have up to 90 players on their off-season rosters which reduce to just 53 by September.
The former Wales wing will be part of the Jaguars’ pre-season games, with dates and opponents announced in May. He is expected to impress as a wide receiver and on special teams where kick-offs, punts, and field goals take place.
Rees-Zammit aims for regular-season roster spot by “doing everything I can to make that happen.” As an NFL International Player Pathway (IPP) graduate, he has three opportunities during the season to be elevated from practice squad to active roster if needed.
Brian Thomas Jr., Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis, Josh Reynolds, and Parker Washington are among other wide receivers vying for a spot. The Jaguars’ target is typically six wide receivers in their regular-season rosters; Rees-Zammit must prove himself valuable beyond the depth options currently signed.
The 2024 season was disappointing, with only four wins from 17 games. The franchise is in a period of change: they’re seeking new general management and have appointed Liam Coen as head coach along with Grant Udinski for offensive coordination and Anthony Campanile for defense.
With quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars possess one of the most promising college prospects in recent history who, although not fully realizing his potential yet, helped them win their first AFC South title since 2017. Fans hope he can improve significantly under new coach Liam Coens guidance in 2025.
