Theatergoer Kicked Out for homophobic Remarks

Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre has taken swift action following a homophobic incident that occurred during Saturday nights performance of The Peaceful Hour.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the theatre informed that an audience member had been removed from their venue and banned due to the use of offensive language. The event was also reported to local authorities.

Offensive, hateful language is unacceptable and has no place in the Royal Court, Liverpool or wider society, highlighted the theatre management in a clear stance against such behavior.

The incident deeply affected those associated with the venue. We support our cast, crew, audience, and staff, said an official spokesperson from the theatre. It saddens us to hear such offensive language being used within our walls.

In response to this issue, Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre reemphasized its commitment to fostering a respectful environment. They stated that they believe in inclusivity and embracing diversity, encouraging all around them to do the same.

The theatre made it clear about their policies regarding offensive language: Anyone found using offensive language, including homophobic comments, will be ejected from the venue and banned from future performances.

Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre also reaffirmed its dedication to safety, respect, and valuing everyone regardless of whom they love or how they identify. They stand against hate and actively support environments that are welcoming to all people.

The Peaceful Hour, a play set in 1980s Kirkby featuring Julie from the area and Tim, an anthropology student from the Cotswolds, delves into themes of true love, real life, and cheesy love songs. The show was written by Gerry Linford.

This incident is part of a concerning trend seen recently when another Dolly Parton-themed musical had to be halted mid-performance due to homophobic abuse directed at stage members.
