Unpacking the Significance: Elon Musk’s Decision to Bring His Children to Work

Elon Musks children have been exposed to experiences that are inaccessible to most people. Theyve accompanied their father on meetings with world leaders and even witnessed SpaceX launches, showcasing them as frequent companions throughout his tech, business ventures, and now into politics.

Musk’s four-year-old son, known as “Lil X”, was seen at the Oval Office last Wednesday in a tan pea coat and collared shirt. The following day, he exchanged gifts with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi while Musk engaged in discussions about technology and innovation with the foreign leader. Such appearances were common even before they ventured into Washington; these included meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, attendance at Auschwitzs memorial service, and a ceremony where Musk was named 2021 Person of the Year by Time Magazine.

Why does Musk bring his children along? Kurt Braddock, an American University professor specializing in public communication, views it as a strategic move to make Musk appear more relatable. According to him, this approach helps Trump draw attention away from serious topics while showcasing a softer side of the billionaire tech entrepreneur.

Muskss four-year-old son’s presence at the Oval Office was unique and unusual given his age. X appeared disinterested during a 30-minute press briefing as he mimicked Musks behavior, sat on the floor, and received sporadic attention from President Trump. At one point, it seemed that he instructed someone to “shush” their voice.

Grimes, Musk’s ex-girlfriend who is X’s mother, criticized her son’s appearance in public spaces. In a post about X at The Washington Posts website (“He should not be in public like this”), she expressed disappointment and gratitude that he maintained politeness despite her reservations.

Musk has frequently displayed his family during events aimed at promoting Tesla when building the company’s profile a decade ago. During an event unveiling was held in Silicon Valley, Musks five children were seen running through hallways and shrieking with laughter while waiting for attendees. The presence of Musks children created a relaxed atmosphere that differed from formal events run by other companies.

Musk has had 12 children with three different women. His most recognizable son goes by “Lil X,” the same letter used to re-name Twitter when he acquired the social media platform. He is also called an “emotional support human” by Musk himself.
