Will the Royal Treasures of St. James’s Palace Soon Be Open to the Public?

Get exclusive access to the historic St James’s Palace with tickets for guided tours priced at £85 per person. The public is set to explore this significant royal landmark for the first time, including the iconic room where King Charles III was formally proclaimed as monarch.

The Royal Collection Trust has made these tour tickets available online in small groups during April and May. They’ve emphasized that prices are competitive within the industry, reflecting the unique experience visitors will enjoy.

Constructed between 1531 and 1536 under King Henry VIII, St James’s Palace stands as London’s most important royal residence. Although not a primary living quarters for monarchs today, it remains the formal seat of the Royal Court and played a crucial role during Charles III’s accession to the throne in 2022.

Unlike other renowned palaces such as Buckingham or Kensington, St James’s had been off-limits to visitors until now. The tour itinerary includes several remarkable features, including Tudor architecture like the courtyard and gatehouse, artworks from the Royal Collection, and notable rooms such as the Colour Court, Grand Staircase, Armoury, Tapestry Room, Queen Anne Room, Entrée Room, Throne Room (where the Accession Council was held), Picture Gallery, and a view of Chapel Royal from a balcony.

Visitors must secure their spots in advance through pre-booking. The tours run between 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM and last approximately one hour and forty-five minutes. Photography is not permitted within the palace grounds during these tours, nor are snacks or beverages allowed. Unfortunately, there are no restroom facilities available for tour participants.
