Tiger Woods described a yardage mix-up that left TGL team-mates Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim in fits of laughter as “one of the most embarrassing moments in my golfing career.” The 49-year-old, playing for the Jupiter Links team in a partially virtual indoor tournament, had to deal with an unfortunate mistake on the 13th hole. He left himself 199 yards from the green after his tee shot.
However, confusion between Woods and his caddie led him to choose a wedge for his next shot instead of using it for only 99 yards as intended by the caddie. This resulted in Woods being short of the hole by 100 yards. The golfing legend immediately sought out his caddie, while Kisner and Kim couldn’t help but laugh at the situation.
Woods heard his caddie say “99,” although it’s common for caddies to drop the first number when they believe the yardage is obvious. Reflecting on this incident, Woods stated, One of the most embarrassing moments in my golfing career just happened, he said, I just screwed up. That was embarrassing.
The mix-up occurred during a match where Jupiter Links were decisively beaten by New York Golf Club with a score of 10-3. It marked Woods’ first appearance since the tragic news about his mother’s death on February 4th.
Woods 16-year-old son, Charlie, accompanied him for Tuesdays event at the SoFi Center in California. Kultida Woods had watched her son play one last time at the same arena on January 27th.
